Introduction
Retatrutide is an investigational peptide that activates the GIP receptor, the GLP-1 receptor and the glucagon receptor. It is being investigated extensively for obesity and metabolic disease.
Research Areas
Mechanisms
Simultaneous agonism at three incretin- and glucagon-related receptors is being investigated for combined effects on appetite regulation, glycemic control and energy expenditure.
Human Evidence
A Phase 2 randomized trial published in the New England Journal of Medicine demonstrated substantial body-weight reductions during the study period. A separate Phase 2 trial studied retatrutide in adults with type 2 diabetes. Multiple Phase 3 TRIUMPH studies have subsequently evaluated retatrutide in obesity and related conditions.
Human research is presented for scientific and educational context only. Elev8 Health does not recommend that its products be used for anything other than laboratory research purposes, and does not recommend human or veterinary use of any kind.
Preclinical Evidence
Preclinical receptor pharmacology supported the multi-receptor development rationale.
Limitations
All published human research is investigational. Long-term outcome and safety characterization is still in progress, and findings describe the investigational compound as studied under trial protocols — not an Elev8 research product.
Safety & Regulatory
Retatrutide is not an FDA-approved drug. FDA states that retatrutide has not been found safe and effective for any condition and cannot currently be used in federal compounding pathways.
Conclusion
Retatrutide has one of the more developed investigational human evidence bases in the catalog while remaining unapproved and under active Phase 3 study.
